A mattress is one of the hardest things in the house to get rid of. Few places take one, donation shops turn them down, and a queen set won’t fit in most cars. We carry it out and take it where it’s accepted.

Why are mattresses hard to get rid of?

Because so few places will take them. Of Oconee County’s 11 recycling centers, only one accepts mattresses: the Strawberry Farm center at 301 N. Strawberry Farm Rd in Seneca. Like every county center, it’s for Oconee County residents only and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Donating one is rarely an option. The Oconee Habitat ReStore lists mattresses and box springs among the things it won’t take.

Clemson, Central and Six Mile are in Pickens County, where the landfill near Liberty accepts furniture and mattresses from residents only during posted windows, such as late November into early December.

If you’d rather haul it yourself, our Oconee County dump guide covers the centers, the hours and the rules.

How does mattress pickup work?

  1. Text a photo to (864) 555-0142, or get a ballpark from the estimator. Tell us which floor the bed is on.
  2. We confirm the price from the photo or a quick look before we load anything.
  3. We carry the mattress, box spring and frame out of the bedroom. You don’t need to drag anything onto the porch first.
  4. We sweep up where the bed stood.
  5. Metal frames go to scrap recycling, and the mattress goes to a facility that accepts it.

What does it cost?

One mattress on its own costs $90–$120, which includes the $15–$25 disposal fee. A mattress and box spring together usually fit within the minimum charge for trailer space ($75–$95), plus the fee for each piece.

Stairs add $25–$50, so a king set coming down from a second-floor bedroom costs a little more than one by the front door. If you’re clearing out the whole bedroom, the dresser, nightstands and headboard are priced together by how much of the trailer they fill. See the pricing page for every load size, or furniture removal for the rest of the room.

What else comes with the bed?

Anything that was part of it. We take:

  • Box springs, foundations and bunkie boards
  • Metal frames, slats and rails
  • Headboards and footboards
  • Bunk beds, lofts and trundles
  • Futons, daybeds and crib mattresses
  • Adjustable bases, priced from a photo

Only the mattresses and box springs carry the per-piece fee. Frames and headboards are priced by the space they take.

Replacing several beds at once?

Several mattresses go in one trip, priced together by trailer space plus the fee for each piece. That suits a rental between tenants or a lake house with a bunk room that’s due for new beds. If you own a student rental near campus, our Clemson move-out guide has the spring calendar, so you can plan the swap around it.

Mattress removal: questions

How much is a mattress and box spring together?

A set usually fits within our minimum charge for trailer space, $75–$95, plus $15–$25 for each piece. Send a photo and we’ll confirm it.

Why is there a fee on each mattress?

Few places in the area accept mattresses, and the facilities that do charge for them. Each mattress or box spring carries a $15–$25 fee on top of the space it takes.

Do you take adjustable bed bases?

Yes. Adjustable bases are heavy and have a motor, so send a photo and we’ll price the base by the space it takes. The mattress on top carries the usual $15–$25 fee.
